St. Mary’s Chiga Parish was filled with joy, prayer and fellowship on Saturday, 29 August 2026, as it hosted the Kisumu East Deanery Family Day, bringing together Catholic faithful from six parishes within the deanery.
The celebration was led by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Vincent Ouma Odundo, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Kisumu, who joined the faithful in celebrating the gift of family, Christian unity and communion within the Church.
The occasion brought together faithful from:
- St. Mary’s Chiga Parish
- Kianja Parish
- Riwo Parish
- St. Paul Kanyakwar Parish
- St. Antony Abbot Ramba Parish
- St. Leonida Nyawita Parish
Beyond being a day of family fellowship and celebration, the gathering also served as a fundraising occasion in support of the Archdiocese of Kisumu. The faithful from the six parishes came together in a spirit of generosity and solidarity to contribute towards the needs and development of the Diocese.
The fundraising demonstrated the commitment of the faithful to supporting the mission of the Church. Through their contributions, participation and generosity, the different parish communities showed that the work of building and strengthening the Church is a shared responsibility.
The Family Day also provided an opportunity for families and parishioners to interact, strengthen bonds and celebrate their faith together. The presence of the Auxiliary Bishop and faithful from across the deanery made the occasion particularly significant, reflecting the unity and togetherness of the Catholic community in Kisumu East Deanery.
